This is the first study in a series of castles I’m working on, for fun I decided to choose castles from all over the world that are available for sale at the time of painting them.
Devizes castle is an English castle built in the 11th century. It was originally a fortification built on the borders of 3 parishes that the town grew up around. Redressed in stone in 1120 after the original building burned down, it was dismantled in 1648. The current building begun construction around 1840 which continued well into the 1860s when they uncovered parts of the original moat and foundations. The original castle is a grade 1 listed building on the National Heritage list. Steeped in history, this castle spent time as a prison, was owned by royalty, quartered military, was pulled down, and rebuilt to what we see today. The real estate listing tells us it is close to good schools with modern amenities.
Absolute bargain for the history buff with a penchant toward preservation at under 3M GBP. However, for slightly less than that, you could be the proud owner of a painting of the current building if you were to imagine you wanted to paint it blue.
